Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction
The "Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Discipline" is a second-level discipline under the first-level discipline of Animal Husbandry of Gansu Agricultural University. This discipline began to recruit postgraduate students in the country in the early 1960s. In 1984, it was granted the right to confer a master's degree. In 1993, it was listed as a key discipline in Gansu Province. In 1998, it was granted the right to confer a doctoral degree. In 1999, it was approved as a "key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture" .
This discipline has 22 teachers, 12 professors, 7 associate professors, and 3 others, including 6 doctoral supervisors and 13 master's supervisors. The person in charge of the subject is Professor Wu Jianping, doctoral supervisor. He is currently the Chinese director of the Sino-US Grassland and Livestock Sustainable Development Research Center, senior consultant of the World Bank’s Western China Grassland Project, executive director of the German Yak and Camel Foundation, and vice president of Gansu Agricultural University. Mainly engaged in research in the fields of genetic breeding, genetic engineering, molecular genetics and animal production systems of sheep, goats and dairy cows.
The main research directions of this subject are: animal genetics theory and application; animal reproduction technology; animal breeding theory and technology. Focusing on the advantages of livestock and poultry resources in northwest China, especially the advantages of livestock breeds on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the subject actively organizes scientific research and carries out production practice exploration, and studies the genetics, breeding and production systems of ruminants (sheep, goats, dairy cows), special animals Yak, Tibetan mastiff, wild camel, etc.) are relatively advanced in research on the preservation and utilization of genetic resources, pig breed selection and matching line production, and have a certain academic status in the country.
This subject mainly offers degree courses such as genetic engineering principles and experimental techniques, quantitative and population genetics, modern biotechnology and animal breeding, animal reproduction principles and techniques, professional foreign languages, animal genetics, breeding and reproduction Seminar. , in the past five years, *** has trained 16 doctors and more than 50 masters.
Complete and undertake more than 40 domestic scientific research projects of various types, with an average annual scientific research funding of 2 million yuan; actively carry out domestic and foreign academic exchange activities, and are cooperating with foreign scientific research institutions in Canada, Germany, the United States, Australia, etc. Four projects; published more than 100 research papers in important academic journals at home and abroad, including 5 papers in SCI-collected journals. He is the editor-in-chief and co-editor of "Sheep Production", "Animal Reproduction", "Gene Engineering and Application", "Animal Genetics", "Chinese Modern Sheep Raising", "Grass and Sheep Raising Technology", "Chinese Sheep Encyclopedia" " and 11 other textbooks and monographs.
This subject has won nearly 20 scientific and technological progress awards and teaching achievement awards at the provincial and ministerial level or above. Many of the results have been applied to actual production and have achieved significant economic benefits.
Animal Husbandry
The first-level discipline of Animal Husbandry was approved by the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council as a doctoral degree authorization point in 2003. It consists of 6 second-level disciplines, namely, animal genetics, breeding and reproduction, Animal nutrition and feed science, animal production system and engineering, special economic animal feeding science, grass industry science, animal food nutrition and engineering. The first-level discipline of animal husbandry has a postdoctoral research station. The subject of animal genetics, breeding and reproduction is a key subject of the Ministry of Agriculture and Gansu Province, and the subject of animal nutrition and feed science is a key subject of Gansu Province. The college has the right to confer professional master's degrees in agricultural extension (animal husbandry). The college is an on-the-job continuing education base for professional and technical personnel in Gansu Province and a vocational skills appraisal training and evaluation base for the feed industry in Gansu Province.
Animal Nutrition and Production
The key discipline of Animal Nutrition and Production at Gansu Agricultural University is developed on the basis of the original animal nutrition, feed science and animal production. It began recruiting graduate students in 1961, and was authorized to confer master's degrees in 1986 and doctoral degrees in 2003. This discipline was approved in 1998 as a key supporting discipline in Gansu Province from 1998 to 2001. In November 2001, it accepted and passed the evaluation organized by the Provincial Department of Education; since then, the subject points have worked hard to overcome and improve the existing gaps. In 2002, it was approved as a key discipline in Gansu Province, and in 2006, it was approved as a key discipline in Gansu Province again.
Under the leadership of academic masters such as Yang Shixing, Peng Dahui, Zhang Songyin, Cui Yuxi, Zhao Youzhang, Liu Mengzhou, and Hao Zhengli, this discipline has formed a profound academic accumulation, accumulated rich experience in training graduate students, and has a good foundation for running a school. From the beginning A good style of study was formed and a better training model was gradually established.
1. Research direction
In stabilizing the original animal nutritional physiology and product quality control (study of digestive tract structure and function, nutrition and immunity, nutrition and trait expression and its regulatory mechanism, Analyze the relevant networks related to the development, expression and regulation of major economic traits), the development and utilization of forage resources (evaluate the nutritional value of forage, study the variation and combination effects of feed nutritional value, formula technology management and compound feed quality control technology, and Based on the research directions of nutrition and processing technology to improve feed utilization efficiency) and animal nutrition (mainly studying the nutritional laws and nutritional requirements of animals, and the relationship between nutrition and the environment), modern poultry production with northwest region characteristics has been expanded and formed (mainly studying the nutritional patterns and nutritional requirements of animals, and the relationship between nutrition and the environment). Research key technologies, new processes, and new models for poultry production, management, and environmental control; research on nutritional regulation and genetic control of poultry meat and egg product quality) and cattle and sheep production systems (based on the dominant livestock breeds in the northwest region—sheep, goats, and yaks) Taking herbivores as research objects, we will carry out research in the fields of evaluation and utilization of their germplasm resources, variety selection and improved seed technology, grassland grazing production systems, animal safety production technology systems, etc., to provide theoretical guidance and guidance for high-quality, efficient and safe production of herbivores. technical support) two new research directions.
2. Faculty
As of 2010, an academic team with reasonable professional titles, academic qualifications, academic background, and age structure has been established in the subject area. There are 5 professors and part-time professors ( There are 7 researchers), 6 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 4 doctoral degree holders, 14 master's degree holders, 7 doctoral students, and 94.74 people have a master's degree or above.
3. Talent training and academic exchange
With improving the quality of training as the core, appropriately expand the enrollment scale. From 2006 to 2010***, it recruited 30 doctoral students and 96 master's students, graduated 7 doctoral students, and 76 master's students. It published 8 SCI papers for doctoral students, 12 other articles, and 51 articles for master's students. From 2006 to 2010, *** held 11 domestic academic conferences, with 1,605 participants. *** 25 people participated in 15 domestic academic conferences.
4. Scientific research
With herbivore research as the characteristic and focus, animal nutritional physiology and product quality control as the main research direction, and the development and utilization of forage resources as the main focus In the fields of applied research and scientific and technological development, we strive to improve the level of basic research and the ability to serve the local economy. From 2006 to 2010, *** applied for 6 national-level projects, 3 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, and 5 department-level projects, with a horizontal funding of 680,000 yuan and a total scientific research funding of 14.38 million yuan. The average annual funding used for postgraduate training and teachers' scientific research in this discipline reaches 2.876 million yuan.
