In the northwest suburbs of Beijing sits a four-story red building - the Beijing Institute of Life Sciences. It is known as the most efficient research institute in China. Director Wang Xiaodong is a "double" academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Sciences. He uses his unique management methods and intellectual vision to lead a group of the most outstanding scientific researchers to explore new knowledge of human life through all the obstacles and painstaking efforts here.
Beisheng Institute has been officially established in 2005. Unlike most scientific research institutions in China, at Beisheng Institute of Technology, all staff from the director to all staff are employed on a contract basis. Researchers do not need to apply for research projects, but can receive fixed funding of 2 million to 3 million per year. They can freely explore according to their own strengths and interests, without following international hot spots or guidelines set by "experts."
