American engineer, explorer and inventor. Edison and I made inventions and started a company together. Single-wire telegraph was invented in 1870 and is widely used in foreign exchange quotation in big cities. Pope's work in the locking signal system of railway traffic lights has won many patents, the most important of which is the railway line for automatic control of electronic signal system invented by him in 1872, which has been widely used in major railways in the United States.

From 1886 to 1887, he served as the chairman of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), and this AIEE is the predecessor of the current IEEE. On June 1 96365438+1October1,AIEE merged with IRE to form IEEE.

PS: As the predecessor of IEEE, in 1894, he was accidentally electrocuted by 3000 volts in the basement of his residence at 5 18 Barrington Main Street. He died at the age of 54.
