What does "Fab68" of Intel Dalian Chip Factory mean?
Throughout Intel's global factory system, we find that the naming of these factories has its own rules. The factory located in Arizona, USA, has always been named after the suffix 2 (Fab 12, Fab 22, Fab 32), and the factory located in Israel has also formed the tradition of naming after the suffix 8 (Fab 8, Fab 18, Fab 28). When we started naming the factory in Dalian, China, we hoped to have a number that best reflected Intel's image of "growing together with China". We have talked with many experts, and they all think it is the best choice to name it Fab 68, because in China, the number "6" stands for "Shun" and the number "8" stands for "Fa". Of course, it is not difficult to name Fab 68, but it needs the consent of Israeli colleagues, because it seems to be their "patent" to name the factory with the suffix of 8. Our Israeli colleagues readily agreed to our plan. Recently, I specially sent a nameplate to thank them for their generosity, and wrote the following words: "We know that Fab 68 must learn from Fab 8, Fab 18 and Fab 28 with an open mind, adhere to the tradition of innovation and pursue Excellence!"
