1884 - John H. Patterson founded the National Cash Register Company and built the first mechanical cash register.

1906 - Charles F. Kettering designs the world's first electric cash register.

1952 - NCR acquires Hawthorne Computer Research Corporation (CRC), a California-based manufacturer of digital computers for aerospace use.

1953 - NCR establishes the Electronics Division to continue exploring electronic application systems for a variety of commercial computers.

1974 - The company's name is changed to NCR Corporation.

1982 - The first NCR Tower ultramicrocomputer is introduced, and NCR becomes a pioneer in the introduction of industry standards and open systems architecture.

1991 - Acquired by AT&T.

1991 - NCR acquires Teradata Corporation, acquiring its advanced and unique commercial parallel processing technology. The NCR Teradata database became the most prestigious and powerful data warehousing in the world.

2000 - NCR acquires Ceres Integrated Solutions, a provider of customer relationship management solutions, and 4Front Technologies, a services company, further expanding NCR's solution offerings in mainstream markets.

2003 - NCR Signature Recognizer patented.
