The first person to input Chinese into the computer

The first person to conquer Chinese character input marks

-Wang Yongmin

In recent years, job advertisements for five-stroke input training courses have spread all over the streets of Beijing. People generally only know "Wu Bi Font", but little is known about its inventor Wang Yongmin.

Wang Yongmin, senior engineer, 1943, from Nanyang, Henan. 1962 was admitted to China University of Science and Technology. 1978- 1983, with five years' efforts, he researched and invented the "five-stroke font", pioneered the "Chinese character radical periodic table", and then invented the 25-key efficient Chinese character input method and character compatibility technology. It solved the problem of computer Chinese character input for the first time and obtained patents from China, the United States and Britain. He was invited to speak at the United Nations five times. Over the past ten years, the "five-stroke font" has been popularized and transformed into productive forces.

The significance of Wang Yongmin's invention is not only that he invented an input method called "Wu Bi Font". His invention broke through the "mainstream" idea of designing a large keyboard to input Chinese characters, making it as convenient to input Chinese characters as using a standard keyboard in western languages, and avoiding the abnormal development of PC in China. It is not difficult to imagine that if every PC needs to be equipped with a dedicated Chinese keyboard, then Chinese characters will be eliminated in the computer market.

1983 65438+On February 5th, the first Wubi font learning class was held in Nanyang, attended by more than 60 units from major ministries and commissions. They transplanted Wubi font to their own computer system, and each unit received 1200 yuan, which was the first income of Wubi font. Wang Yongmin gave all the money to Nanyang Science and Technology Commission.

1984, Wang Yongmin came to Beijing with a personal computer. With the help of CC-DOS author Yan, the font was transplanted to the personal computer.

Nowadays, "Wu Bi font" has become the most commonly used input method for professional word processing, and various input methods such as "full spelling", "double spelling", "positive code" and "natural code" have appeared one after another. China people believe that Chinese characters will never die out in the information age.
