Macau's tax system is the general name of China and Macau's tax laws, regulations and collection systems, with direct tax as the main tax category. Macao is one of the tax havens, which is characterized by less taxes and light tax burden, and implements the principle of revenue source tax jurisdiction. There are 14 taxes in Macao, including 8 direct taxes, namely patent tax, net profit tax, paper money tax, property transfer tax, occupation tax, gift tax and inheritance tax. There are six kinds of indirect taxes, namely stamp duty, consumption tax, tourism tax, lottery tax, gun tax and passenger departure poll tax. Direct tax is the main source of tax revenue in Macao.
Macao's tax authority is the Financial Secretary's Banknote Bureau, which has two regional branches. The Financial Secretary is the highest official financial institution in Macao, responsible for all government revenues and expenditures, annual budgets and final accounts, and exercising supervision and coordination over the finances of all official, public and private institutions in Macao.
