Do you know what causes the engine oil to become low? Is it just because of burning oil?

First of all, everyone needs to be clear that as long as the engine is running, engine oil will continue to be consumed, which is a normal phenomenon. ?When the engine is operating normally, engine oil is generally consumed through the following three channels: ?1. When the piston reciprocates in the cylinder, an oil film is formed on the inner wall of the cylinder. The high-temperature gas generated during the combustion process of the combustible mixture , will burn off part of the oil film. ?2. A small part of the engine oil that lubricates the intake valve lifter will be sucked into the combustion chamber and burned; similarly, a small part of the engine oil that lubricates the exhaust valve lifter will be consumed by high-temperature exhaust gas. ?3. Due to the effects of high temperature and oxidation, a small amount of engine oil will turn into oil vapor, and the oil vapor will be sucked into the combustion chamber through the crankcase forced ventilation valve and burned.

So how much engine oil consumption is considered normal? Under normal circumstances, we think it is normal to consume less than 0.3L of engine oil per 1,000 kilometers. If it exceeds this value, it is considered to be burning oil. However, the parameter given by some manufacturers is 1L/1000km. We think this is a bit exaggerated. According to this standard, if a maintenance cycle is not completed, the engine oil will be exhausted?

So, every three thousand kilometers or so, we need to check the oil dipstick to see if the oil level is lower than the minimum value. If the oil level is insufficient, add it in time. If you need to add engine oil several times during a maintenance cycle, pay attention to whether your car is burning oil. ? 2. Burning engine oil? "Burning engine oil" means that the engine oil enters the combustion chamber of the engine and participates in combustion together with the mixed gas. Generally, oil burning is caused by oil leakage in the lubrication system, excessive wear or damage to the cylinder wall and piston rings, or damage or aging of the valve oil seal. In addition, the engine oil is of poor quality or the viscosity grade does not meet the requirements, resulting in insufficient lubrication, increased cylinder wear, and oil burning. ?How to tell if your car is burning oil? ?1. Engine oil level check? If the car is driving normally and the oil level drops below the minimum mark every 1,000km, then it is very likely that the engine oil is burning.

Pull out the oil dipstick

Check the oil level? 2. Observe the exhaust gas. When driving normally, if there is blue smoke coming out of the car exhaust gas, it means the car is burning oil. Or if there is a lot of blue smoke and a pungent smell from the exhaust pipe when you slam the accelerator, it is undoubtedly burning engine oil.

How to prevent your car from burning oil? ?Burning engine oil is not a good thing. Except for some original defects of the engine, our ordinary cars can avoid or reduce oil burning through some tricks. ?1. Change the engine oil on time

Because engine oil has a shelf life, changing the engine oil on time can ensure the cleanliness and lubrication of the engine interior. If the engine oil is not changed for a long time beyond the maintenance period, the engine will be in a working state of dirty oil lubrication for a long time. Insufficient engine lubrication will accelerate wear and tear. ?2. Use the engine oil of the appropriate grade? What we are talking about here is the engine oil of the appropriate grade. We are not encouraging everyone to blindly pursue high-grade engine oil. Why? ?For new cars, we prefer to use the engine oil grade recommended by the manufacturer, because this is tested by the manufacturer based on the sealing gap of the engine, and it is naturally reliable. If a new car uses high-viscosity engine oil, the oil film will not form due to poor fluidity, which will not lubricate the engine enough, exacerbating engine wear.

After the car has run 100,000 kilometers, if you feel that the car is slightly burning oil, it is not too late to change the oil to a higher grade. ?3. Replace the air filter element regularly

If the air filter element is damaged, large dust particles will enter the cylinder, which will also accelerate the wear of the cylinder and cause oil burning. In the same way, we must be careful when choosing high-flow air filters. ? 2. Oil leakage? Oil leakage is easier to understand, it is oil leakage. Generally, if the engine cylinder gasket, oil pan liner and sealing ring are damaged, the front and rear oil seals of the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals are damaged, or the fastening screws of various parts are loose, it will cause oil leakage or oil leakage.

Is the engine oil leaking? Of course, if you don’t pay attention while driving and the oil pan hits a stone or other obstacle and breaks the oil pan, the oil leakage will be serious.

Oil pan leakage? Summary? Having said so much, I will say a few words at the end. For ordinary private car owners, as long as they pay attention to regularly checking the engine oil level (replenish if necessary), follow the manufacturer's instructions Maintenance specifications: Regular maintenance (regular replacement of engine oil, engine filter, etc.), and observing whether there is "blue smoke" in the exhaust pipe of your vehicle. If you do these basic tasks well, you don't have to worry about the engine "burning oil."
