How to insert references and standard reference formats in Word
How to apply references
When writing a paper, citing references is very troublesome. The thing is, the document format required by each magazine is different, including the method of inserting it into the article and the format and order of arranging it behind the article. According to the sorting order, it is mainly divided into two types: one is sorting by insertion order, and the other is sorting by author's name. If you sort by author name, if the content of the article needs to be changed (including moving, inserting or deleting), it will have little impact on the final sorting of the references, and the numbering can be easily changed. However, if you sort by insertion order (as most domestic magazines and many foreign magazines do), if the article is changed, the work of adding, deleting and reordering references will become cumbersome and error-prone. . Some editors have very strict requirements in this regard and regard the format of references as an important criterion for the seriousness of the author. Therefore, references are a link that cannot be ignored when we write a paper.
If you can use the function of inserting endnotes in Word, you can solve the problem of sorting references in papers sorted by insertion order. The method is as follows:
1. Move the cursor to the place where you want to insert references, and click "Insert footnotes and endnotes" in the menu.
2. Select "Endnote" in the dialog box, select "Automatic Numbering" as the numbering method, and it is recommended to select "End of Section" for the location.
3. If the number after the automatic numbering is not Arabic numerals, select Options in the lower right corner and select Arabic numerals in the numbering format.
4. After confirmation, a superscript ?1? is inserted there, and the cursor automatically jumps to the end of the article. There is a superscript ?1? in front of it. This is the way to enter the first reference. place.
5. Change the format of the superscript ?1? at the end of the article to normal (remember to change the format, not delete it and re-enter it, otherwise the reference will be moved to the next position, this serial number It will not change), and then enter the inserted references after it (the format should be entered slowly according to the requirements of the magazine, there seems to be no way to simplify it).
6. Double-click the ?1? in front of the reference. The cursor will return to the place where the reference is inserted in the article content, and you can continue writing the article.
7. Insert endnotes according to the above method again in the next place where you want to insert references. A ?2? will appear (Word has automatically sorted it for you). Continue to enter the references you want to insert.
8. After all the references have been cited, you will find a short horizontal line in front of the first reference (can only be seen in the page view). If the reference spans two pages, there will be a dash in front of the first reference. There is also a long horizontal line in the place. These lines cannot be selected or deleted. This is the sign of an endnote, but such lines are not allowed in general scientific paper formats, so they must be deleted.
9. Switch to the normal view, click "View Footnotes" in the menu, and the endnote editing bar will appear at the bottom.
10. Select "Endnote Separator" from the drop-down menu to the right of the endnote. Then the short horizontal line appears. Select it and delete it.
11. Select "Endnote continuation separator" in the drop-down menu. This is the long horizontal line that appears. Select it and delete it.
12. Switch back to the page view, and the reference insertion has been completed. At this time, no matter how the article is modified, the references will be automatically sorted. If deleted, subsequent references will automatically disappear without error.
13. The more references there are, the greater the advantages of this method will be.
14. When you need to cite the same document multiple times in a document, you need to make an endnote when citing the document for the first time. When citing the document again, click ?Insert︱Cross-reference?,?Citation type? Select "Endnote", the citation content is "Endnote number (with format)", then select the corresponding document and insert it.
15. If you need to add a reference in front of [1], so that [1] becomes [2], just insert footnotes and endnotes where you need to insert, and select the section. The ending is determined?. Then the references below (actually the endnotes) will automatically change, and the numbers in the text will also change automatically.
16. The cross-reference number will not change, but you need to select it and press the F9 key to update it; or open "Print Preview" and then close it, it will also be updated.
