The history of KBP Design Bureau can be divided into several stages.

Russian military enterprises are mostly distributed regionally, and a large number of military enterprises are often concentrated in a certain city or region, forming a special city similar to a military city and a space city. Tula is such an area, where many defense industrial units engaged in weapons research and manufacturing have gathered. KBP Instrument Design Bureau is one of the famous military enterprises in Tula area.

KBP Instrument Design Bureau has a long history. It has been 83 years since 192 1 was established. After decades of efforts, KBP Instrument Design Bureau has accumulated rich experience in weapons research and manufacturing, and has become a pioneer in leading the trend of weapons at home and abroad. Throughout the development history of KBP Design Bureau, it can be roughly divided into three stages: the first stage was from the establishment of 192 1 to the end of 1940s, including World War II.

KBP Design Bureau mainly developed automatic air guns and machine guns before World War II. Representative products include 7.62mm TT pistol, SVT automatic rifle, 12.7mm machine gun family, VYA-2323mm machine gun, etc. Especially VYa-23 machine gun, which is the standard equipment of more than 80% Soviet Air Force aircraft, it can be said that KBP Design Bureau has also made great contributions to the victory of the Great Patriotic War.

In the early post-war period, KBP Design Bureau concentrated on improving the existing weapon system. The main small-caliber light weapons products include 7.62mm SVT-38 and SVT-40 self-loading rifles, 7.62mm SVT-40 sniper rifles and SVT-40 automatic rifles, tokarev and Tamm submachine guns, the world-famous 7.62mm tokarev pistols, and later 9mm makarov pistols and Steechkin automatic pistols.

Large-caliber weapons include A- 12.7 machine guns, two kinds of 23mm aerial guns and 2A 1423 machine guns. The remarkable achievements in this stage are to improve the firing rate of automatic weapons, improve the ballistic performance of ammunition and reduce the size and weight of weapons; In the second stage of its development, KBP Instrument Design Bureau took the lead in developing guided weapons, especially anti-tank missile systems. The first and second generation anti-tank missiles (such as METIS, FAGOT and KONKURS) developed and produced by the company are still in service in the armies of many countries.

In the third development stage, KBP Instrument Design Bureau began to expand its scientific research and business scope. In addition to the original large-caliber light weapons, cannons, anti-tank missiles and other advantageous projects, KBP is also involved in armored combat vehicles, guided artillery shells, air defense weapons and so on. In addition, KBP also produces civilian products, such as medical laser equipment, sewing machines and motors for digital machine tools.

In order to develop a complete weapon system faster and better, KBP Instrument Design Bureau has several special departments: radar, optical and thermal imaging observation device system department; Automatic control equipment department; Feasibility Study and Efficiency Analysis Department: Power and Aerodynamic Prediction Department. It has world-class computers, computer control equipment, manufacturing and testing facilities.

In recent ten years, researchers and engineers of KBP Instrument Design Bureau have invented more than 40 kinds of weapon systems, published more than 120 important scientific papers and obtained more than 400 patents.

In 1990s, Russia and some other countries called for the development of special weapons for law enforcement forces and task forces. KBP undertook this task without hesitation. In a short period of five years, KBP Design Bureau has developed and produced a large number of submachine guns, assault rifles, revolvers, sniper rifles, gun-mounted, portable and vehicle-mounted Grenade launchers, shotguns and various shotguns with different calibers.

At present, KBP is fully capable of developing all kinds of light weapons without delay. Due to the advanced research and development means, the technical level of weapons is becoming more and more perfect, reaching the highest level. These weapons are light in weight, small in size, simple in operation and high in productivity.
