Tencent "shot" a 1.25 billion pixel VR panorama: a composite of 92 8K photos

On the occasion of the Year of the Tiger, the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park opened online for the first time, and Tencent helped "shoot" a 1.25 billion-pixel VR panorama. It is understood that this is the first pilot project for the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (National Park Service) to cooperate with Tencent to explore the "full reality Internet" experience in national parks.

In order to make this photo, the technical team traveled through mountains and rivers in the ice and snow, using aerial photography equipment at a height of 200 meters above the ground to take 8.3GB, 92 8K high-definition photos. Finally, Tencent Multimedia Laboratory This 1.25 billion-pixel panorama was assembled through image processing technology.

All users can freely visit the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park in 360 degrees on their mobile phones and observe details with 120 times magnification. You can also use infrared cameras hidden in every corner to see the rare wild animals they photograph, such as Amur leopards, sables, sika deer, etc., and learn about their ecology.

Tencent has also introduced self-developed multi-level slicing rendering technology and immersive media compression and transmission engine. It will automatically render the images you can see based on your screen resolution and network bandwidth, and then transmit them. The bit rate is also smaller and faster than the usual 4K ultra-high definition VR video.

What’s interesting is that if you find traces of the Siberian tiger, you can also get a limited edition red envelope cover without customization.
