How to apply for a patent in New Zealand?

1. If you want to apply for a New Zealand patent, the applicant can either submit an electronic application directly to IPONZ or apply through PCT, specifying New Zealand as the effective country.

2. When applying for a New Zealand patent, the patent applicant is required to submit a description when submitting the application. The complete description includes an abstract, description of the invention, drawings and one or more patent claims. Once you submit your patent application, you will be issued an application number.

3. It should be noted that the patent applicant needs to pay the annual maintenance fee in the fourth year after submitting the complete specification. If the payment is delayed, a delay penalty will be paid. If the payment is not made after 6 months due, the patent application will be deemed to be abandoned, and the patent applicant may request to restore the patent application within the statutory period.
