What is the relationship between the imperfect victim Lin Law and Wu Lao?

In the TV series Imperfect Victims, Lv Lin (Zhou Xun) and Wu Lao (Wang Tonghui) are a pair of teachers and students. Wu Lao is a mentor of forestry law and a famous law professor. In the play, Wu Lao was hospitalized because of illness. He hoped to see Lin Law before he died, but Lin Law didn't visit him. Lawyer Lin's parents went to the hospital instead of her and told Wu that what they regretted most was entrusting their daughter to him. Wu sent an email to Lv Lin from his hospital bed, telling him that his feelings for her were true, admitting that he had hurt her, and hoping that she would forgive him. After reading the email, Lin Law felt relieved and grew up. She decided to quit her job and start her own life again.
