Because behind the cold and objective law, it is not the bondage of reason and deliberate standards, but the hope of human moral conscience and perceptual desire. Therefore, I believe that the best lawyers are not only messengers who rationally practice social fairness and justice. Because we can interpret the good wishes of human beings with enthusiasm through one case at hand. At the same time, it leads the cold method to be more humanized and more in line with today's moral standards. In this sense, we should be romantic idealists, because we seek the greatest common denominator of attainments in all social contradictions; At the same time, we are rational pragmatists, because we are striving for the greatest rights and interests of all parties to the contradiction; Moreover, we are self-sufficient builders who pursue fairness and morality.
I was the first practicing lawyer in the early 1980s, that is, after the reform and opening up. I have witnessed the difficult and painful growth of the lawyer profession in the complicated development process. You must admit that sometimes we strive for fairness, but in the end we get compromise fairness. For justice, we put up with humiliation and even sacrificed ourselves. But what you get in the end is partial justice. From the perfectionist's point of view, this is called failure, but from the realist's point of view, this is called success and progress, because we are human beings, not gods, and we are eating whole grains, looking for the pure truth in the world and striving for flawless beauty. It's like pulling up your hair. So we struggle with ourselves, and we are miserable and even crazy, because I have been telling myself since the day I became a lawyer that I am a moral guardian because I have a kind heart and good wishes. But later I learned that from the day I became a lawyer, I was a victim and a martyr. I will definitely pay the price and get more important results in the world. Please believe that what I get is not money and power.
I know my confession today may only bring you more ridicule. Today, you are purer than me and believe in your own strength more than me. I'm proud of you. But what I hope to see more is that there will be such a day in the next 20 years. Like me, you stand on this stage and sum up your life. Similarly, the students in your audience also ridicule your confession. This is inheritance.
In fact, for us, law is not only a means to judge and enforce human disputes, but also a means to maintain social fairness and justice with a lifetime of sacrifice. This kind of sacrifice is not physical, nor is it limited to spiritual. Instead, we use our initial youth to sacrifice all our initial ideals, and until the moment when we finally go to court, we exchange self-denial and trampling on the most beloved principles for the perfection and progress of human civilization in laws and regulations.
Especially today, the day when I say goodbye, I can proudly tell you that I am a qualified lawyer, because in the past 30 years, I have worked hard, compromised and sacrificed, and let me see that the law in China has come to this day. What is more gratifying at the same time is that I have seen your generation again, mocking our generation, moving on, blessing you young people and blessing you.
