Legal basis: Article 33 of the Lawyers Law of People's Republic of China (PRC). From the day when the criminal suspect is interrogated by the investigation organ for the first time or compulsory measures are taken, the entrusted lawyer has the right to meet the criminal suspect and defendant with the lawyer's practice certificate, the certificate of law firm and the power of attorney or legal aid letter to learn about the relevant situation. Lawyers are not monitored when they meet criminal suspects and defendants.
Article 9 of the Provisions on Lawyers' Participation in the Investigation Stage of Criminal Proceedings: A criminal suspect in the same case may not employ the same lawyer.
