The department focuses on teaching and research in traditional legal education subjects. The traditional legal discipline is the essence of legal science that has been tempered over the years. Traditional legal education subjects mainly refer to civil law, commercial law, criminal law, civil procedure law, criminal procedure law, constitution, administrative law, administrative procedure law, private international law, public international law, executive law, jurisprudence, and legal system Shi et al. In addition to strengthening the teaching and research of traditional law, the department also focuses on legal issues such as labor, environmental protection, technology transfer, intellectual property and international trade to meet the needs of social development. In addition, the department also attaches great importance to the integration of science and technology education to improve the quality of teaching.
The department currently has 9 full-time teachers, 8 part-time teachers, 137 students in master’s classes (including general classes and in-service classes), 231 students in undergraduate classes, and 48 students in two-year in-service classes. Vision
1. Cooperate with the construction of the national rule of law and cultivate legal talents:
In addition to material construction such as economic construction, transportation construction, and national defense construction, national construction should also cooperate with the construction of the rule of law to achieve long-term peace and stability. The goals; Taiwan Province's past 10 projects and 12 projects, as well as the current Asia-Pacific Operations Center project, have laid a solid foundation for improving the country's economic strength, promoting transportation development, and planting national defense strength. However, economic growth requires the cooperation of legal systems. In the long-term planning, the country should still cultivate legal talents, improve the national system, make the government administer according to the law, and the concept of the rule of law be deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, so as to ensure the long-term stability of the country and advance into the ranks of advanced countries. The development of democratic politics in Taiwan Province has reached its highest level with the realization of "direct election" of the president and vice president. However, different social opinions often lead to confusion. To achieve the ideal state of "spiritual transformation", the people must have high-quality legal literacy. Kaohsiung University is a comprehensive university. The establishment of the department not only provides a research and study environment for the future legal education of Kaohsiung University students, but also plays an important role in cultivating legal talents for the country.
Second, balance the development differences in legal education between the north and the south and establish a major legal education center in the south;
From the perspective of the distribution of law departments in universities in Taiwan, the law departments of comprehensive universities are mainly located in the north. , only National Cheng Kung University and Chung Cheng University in the south have law institutes and law departments, which are not enough to cultivate legal talents. People in Greater Kaohsiung have been waiting for Sun Yat-sen University to establish a law department for decades, but it has never happened. Kaohsiung is an important town in the south. The establishment of this department has balanced the gap in legal education between the north and the south, and has also become an important training center that can provide legal talents for the greater Kaohsiung area as a response to future economic and political development.
The mission of the university is not only to cultivate students for higher education, but also to provide students and teachers with the inculcation of the cultural atmosphere of the surrounding city and the dissemination of knowledge, thereby improving the quality of the nation. Kaohsiung University established its own department under this mission while improving the level of legal education in the southern region centered on Kaohsiung.
3. Cultivate legal talents in specific fields based on the industrial and cultural characteristics of Kaohsiung:
Kaohsiung is an industrial town in Taiwan Province. Because of the problems brought about by industrial development, such as labor Problems, environmental protection issues, land issues, intellectual property issues, technology transfer issues, and even urban planning issues are becoming more and more serious. Kaohsiung is the largest port in Taiwan Province, the third largest container port in the world, and the Asia-Pacific Operations Center international shipping port. Due to its strong international nature, it also triggers issues related to navigation, insurance, international trade, international finance, and international economy. There is a need to train senior legal experts in the above areas to meet the demand. Looking at the legal courses offered by the law departments of various domestic universities, although they are somewhat related to this and have achieved certain results, they do not regard cultivating experts in the above fields as the focus of establishing colleges and departments. The development prospects of Kaohsiung University and the training of legal talents to solve the above problems have been discussed repeatedly and in-depth. In addition to strengthening the teaching and research of basic legal courses, labor issues, environmental protection issues, land issues, intellectual property issues and technology transfer issues were also discussed.
4. Provide an environment for legal popularization, continuing education and community development education:
In view of the necessity of comprehensively improving national legal knowledge and cultivating a sound concept of the rule of law, the mission of this department should be In addition to legal education for school students, promote and deepen education in the legal field in line with the education reform concept of a lifelong learning society. Currently, the extension education major offered by the department provides government employees, business managers, workers and local residents with the opportunity to further study legal courses.
Verb (abbreviation of verb) organizes legal service agencies to provide legal services to residents in residential areas:
On the one hand, the establishment of legal service agencies provides legal consultation to residents and improves social Legal value; on the other hand, through the service process, students can be provided with internship opportunities and the concept of social justice.
Based on the above concept, the legal service institutions supported by our ministry have joined the service, including professors, graduate students, and undergraduates from our school’s law school. We have also invited judicial officers and lawyers from the southern region to serve as legal advisors to provide residents in residential areas with more complete legal services. Consulting services.
