According to Article 47 of the Prison Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), criminals can communicate with others while serving their sentences, but the communication should be inspected by the prison. Letters found in prisons that hinder the reform of criminals may be detained. Letters written by criminals to higher authorities and prison judicial organs are not subject to inspection.
Article 49 stipulates that criminals receiving property shall be approved and inspected by the prison.
Article 58 stipulates that a prison may give a warning, record a demerit or confine a prisoner in any of the following circumstances that disturb the supervision order:
