Can I be represented by a lawyer throughout the proceedings?

Legal analysis: Yes. You can entrust a lawyer with full authority, you don't need to appear in court, and of course you can appear in court. If there is no lawyer, you must appear in court by yourself. There is only one exception, that is, divorce cases. Both parties must appear in court with or without lawyers. If there is no identity relationship involved, the lawyer can be fully represented and the parties may not appear in court. Cases involving personal nature, such as divorce, can only be represented, and the parties need to appear in court.

Legal basis: Article 59 of the Civil Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).

When a party to a civil case entrusts a lawyer as an agent ad litem to participate in a civil lawsuit, it must submit a power of attorney signed or sealed by the client to the people's court that accepts the case, otherwise the lawyer's power of agency in a civil lawsuit cannot be established.
