Materials required for applying for a passport
1. Applicant’s ID card, household registration book and copies; residents under 16 years old should bring their household registration book, original ID card of their guardian and proof of The original documents of the guardianship relationship must be accompanied by the guardian.

Members of state agencies at or above the deputy director level, middle-level or above leadership teams of large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and leadership teams of subordinate enterprises, members of the leadership teams of state-owned enterprises at the district (county) level, state-owned equity representatives of state-controlled enterprises, county Leading cadres at or above the middle level of the financial, insurance, and securities systems at or above the level, and registered personnel who are retired cadres at or above the department or bureau level submit their unit opinions in accordance with the cadre management authority and administrative affiliation. For administrative affiliations, opinions shall be submitted to the unit; for military personnel, opinions shall be issued by the army or work unit in accordance with the cadre management authority.
3. A bare-headed photo and a completed "Application Form for Chinese Citizens Going Abroad (Border) for Private Purposes".

Chinese citizens shall apply for passports or other travel documents in accordance with the law when leaving or entering the country.
Chinese citizens traveling to other countries or regions should also apply for a visa or other entry permit for the country of destination. This is except where the Chinese government has signed mutual visa exemption agreements with the governments of other countries or otherwise stipulated by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chinese citizens who enter or exit the country as seafarers and work on foreign ships must apply for a seafarer's certificate in accordance with the law.
