(2) Dare to admit defeat: Westerners grow up in a competitive environment and regard winning or losing as a common occurrence. Admit defeat and stick to it. This is what we call "sportsmanship". However, many of us are not used to giving up and can't afford to lose. We think that giving up is humiliation, humiliation and "shame". Even if the squad leader is elected in primary schools, it is necessary to "default" or engage in "equal elections". During my study in the School of International Relations of Columbia University in new york, I found that Americans not only admitted defeat in the Vietnam War, but also repeatedly studied why they failed. To my surprise, they take their failure so seriously. A nation has this spirit, which is a sign of self-confidence and strength.
(3) Consciously abiding by the law: A country's rule of law must be based on people's consciously abiding by the law, so that the public security system can effectively punish a few lawless elements. The individual income tax declaration system in the United States is based on taxpayers' voluntary declaration. Only when most people declare voluntarily can the tax bureau focus its audit work on a few people. The habit of consciously obeying the law must be cultivated from an early age. All my children are educated in America. They are very dissatisfied with all kinds of illegal behaviors in my driving habits, such as speeding, not wearing a seat belt, parking indiscriminately, running a red light and not stopping, and keep trying to correct me, but they are unmoved. I admit that I obey the law unconsciously. I gradually corrected these behaviors when I was severely punished or even revoked my driver's license.
(4) Consciously abide by public order: public order is not a law, and there is often no punishment, so we need everyone's consciousness. We China people always like to take advantage of foreign countries' opportunities, take photos in places where we shouldn't go, smoke in places where we shouldn't go, cross the border in places where we shouldn't go, get stuck in traffic jams in places where we should queue, refuse to turn off our mobile phones when it's time to turn them off, and always like to trespass, make a loud noise and litter ... I don't mean to despise others when I say these words, because I have done it myself. All these bad habits were recently manifested by a China student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Although he was warned, he took advantage of the negligence of the security personnel to cross the border, just to kiss his girlfriend and say a few more words, which made all China people feel ashamed. American queuing art is world-class. As long as there are two or three people waiting, they will automatically queue up, go to the bank to do business, go to the theater to queue up to buy tickets, go to the store counter to queue up for checkout, and even queue up to go to the toilet. Few people don't line up. There is no privilege here, and it is rare to see "stuck" behavior.
(5) Be brave to stand up: Our ancestral motto of "Be wise and protect yourself" is too harmful, and we live abroad. When we are treated unfairly or need help, it is often our own people who stand by and watch the fun, but it is often foreigners who stand up for justice or lend a helping hand. A China college student studying in the United States told me that whenever there is a blood donation activity in the school, most of the people who queue up to donate blood are American students, and most of the Asian students are far away. After the 9 1 1 terrorist attacks, Muslims in the United States were discriminated against by some people, but it was Americans who stood up for these Muslims. As "international police", Americans are often accused of "imperialism" or "ulterior motives", but can there be no police in this world? The recent earthquake in Haiti has paralyzed the local government, and great unrest may occur at any time. At this time, the US military rushed to maintain order and provide assistance, but it was immediately criticized. I support this act of coming forward.
(6) Ways to solve disputes: Disputes and contradictions occur between people. Americans like to solve problems face to face, while many of us like to take detours and solve problems through the lobbying of middlemen. Both direct and indirect seem to have merits, but solving problems indirectly often complicates simple problems and eventually becomes more difficult to solve. What if the dispute cannot be resolved? Some of us are getting emotional and have a strong smell of gunpowder. We either insult each other or fight. If we go to court, we will become enemies. The final way for Americans to resolve disputes is third-party arbitration, but generally it will not become an enemy, just as it is common for referees to decide disputes in sports competitions. There are many ways and means of so-called third-party arbitration, and I have experienced three myself: First, I had a small contract dispute with a tile worker, which was later settled through arbitration by the Chamber of Commerce. After both parties state their reasons to the arbitrator of the Chamber of Commerce, the arbitrator will put forward arbitration opinions; Second, my family and neighbors had a dispute about drainage, which was later settled by the local court, and there was no need to hire a lawyer. After both parties state their own situations to the judge, the judge makes a judgment; Third, I had a big contract dispute with a big company, and the lawyers of both sides appeared in court and the judge ruled. The three lawsuits, big and small, were successfully solved, leaving no tail and no enmity with anyone.
(7) Disdain telling lies: In the past 50 years, the most concentrated expression of moral corruption in China from top to bottom is "cheating". Many people don't care about telling a few lies at all, but they don't know that "lying" is regarded as a serious moral corruption in western countries. Lying and perjury in court will be sentenced. If the president is caught lying, he can step down for it. Nixon and Clinton both suffered from lying. If you lied when applying for a visa to the United States, you may never come to the United States once you are found out. In America, many of us have a serious lack of understanding of the serious consequences of lying.
(8) Tolerance: Many of us always accuse foreigners of prejudice and racial discrimination against us, but we don't know that our prejudice and racial discrimination are often much more serious than foreigners. Judging from the people I met in China, their discrimination against black Americans far exceeds that of white Americans. The United States is a multi-ethnic country with various religions, cultures and customs. Americans who have been educated and raised in this diversified environment have relatively little prejudice and discrimination against different ethnic groups, and intermarriage between different ethnic groups is also quite common. Look at the ethnic composition of Obama's cabinet members, many of whom are Chinese, and you will know what kind of country this is. I have been to western Europe, Japan and other countries. Compared with these countries, the United States is the most tolerant to China people, which is also the main reason why I like the United States. Without this article, no matter how good the United States is, I will not choose to live here permanently.
(9) "American spirit": What is the American spirit? 10 People will have 10 different answers. On September 1 2006, terrorists took control of four American civil aviation planes, two of which crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, one crashed into the US Department of Defense in Washington, and the fourth plane was on its way to the White House in Washington. Passengers on board discovered the terrorists' attempt. At this critical moment of life and death, these passengers cast a vote, regardless of wealth, one person, one vote. According to the voting results, they fought to the death with terrorists, none of them survived, but they protected the White House and nearby residents from greater disasters. I think this is a concentrated expression of the "American spirit".
