Guo once said in an interview with "Upstream News" that he was tortured by the police to extract a confession after the incident. In the following 39 years, Guo experienced criminal detention, arrest, death penalty in the first instance, remand for retrial, commuted sentence to life, and remand for retrial.

On August 25, 1989, the former Longnan Intermediate People's Court considered that the main facts of the case were unclear and the evidence was insufficient, and returned the case to the Longnan Branch of the former Gansu Provincial Procuratorate. On June 20, 1994, the former Longnan Branch of the Gansu Provincial Procuratorate returned the case to the Huixian City Public Security Bureau and issued a legal opinion stating "Guo is released on bail pending trial and the police are requested to continue the investigation." Guo never waited for any news.

On June 30, 1994, the Huixian City Public Security Bureau released Guo and was released on bail pending trial on the same day. Guo, who walked out of the detention center at 10, had been detained for 2 months. Guo waited until February 26, 2009 to get the ruling of "release on bail pending trial."

Guo said that when he walked out of the detention center, he found that everything had changed. It was only after he came back that he heard that his mother had been crying at home every day since he was arrested. Two years after his arrest, his mother died. Before being released on bail, my father suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was paralyzed in bed. After being released on bail pending trial, his father also died.

Guo said that in addition to the death of his parents, he also lost his job and was gossiped about by outsiders. Because he knows that even if he is released on bail pending trial, he is still a criminal suspect in law.

"My son's classmates all say that I am a murderer." In order to prove his innocence, Guo tried many methods, but they all failed. He has also always had a bad reputation as a "murder suspect".

In 2011 and 2012, Guo applied for state compensation to the Longnan Intermediate People's Court and the Gansu Provincial High Court respectively, but both applications were rejected on the grounds that "the criminal proceedings in this case have not yet been concluded."

In an interview with an upstream news reporter, Guo said that for so many years, he has always insisted that he was wronged and innocent. He heard that the Public Security Bureau, Procuratorate and Legal Department had changed several heads over the years, and some of the case handlers from those years had passed away. "I don't want to bring this identity into the coffin."
