Can a lawyer send letters to others? When lawyers meet with criminal suspects, they can convey family members’ opinions at the meeting, but they cannot bring letters. A lawyer refers to a person who is entrusted or assigned to provide legal services such as litigation representation or defense business to clients. Lawyers must pass the legal professional qualification examination and obtain a lawyer's practicing certificate in accordance with the law before they can practice law. Article 37 of the Criminal Procedure Law: Defense lawyers may meet and communicate with criminal suspects and defendants in custody. Other defenders may also meet and communicate with criminal suspects and defendants in custody with the permission of the People's Court and People's Procuratorate.
