What is the current situation after the first trial of the intentional homicide case in Huize, Yunnan?

On July 19, the Intermediate People's Court of Qujing City, Yunnan Province held a public hearing in Huize County, Qujing City, to hear the intentional homicide case of defendant Yang Qingpei. It is reported that the case will be pronounced publicly at a later date.

During the case handling process, through the work of relevant departments in Qujing City and Huize County, the aftermath of the 19 victims was properly handled. The victim's family members applied to the Qujing Intermediate People's Court to withdraw the incidental civil lawsuit. After review, the court found that it complied with the relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law and ruled to allow the withdrawal of the lawsuit.

The procuratorial organ believes that the defendant Yang Qingpei deliberately killed 19 people. His behavior violated the provisions of Article 232 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China. The method was cruel and the crime was extremely serious.

In today’s court hearing, the court fully protected the defendant’s litigation rights, and relevant witnesses and appraisers appeared in court to testify. After court investigation, cross-examination, court debate and final statement, the defendant Yang Qingpei and his defender had no objection to the facts and charges charged in the indictment. The defendant Yang Qingpei admitted his guilt and apologized.

Nearly 200 people including the families of the victims, some Qujing City People’s Congress deputies, CPPCC members, media reporters and the public attended the trial.
