The entire manor is rigorous, solid and solemn in architecture. It is the largest, most complete and most typical manor in northern China.
Because of its grand scale and profound connotation, Mou's Manor has been evaluated by many experts and scholars as "the living fossil of a century-old manor" and "a treasure of traditional architecture". At the same time, Mou's Manor was also praised as "China's small folk palace" by future generations.
Mou Zhiyi’s son built the Manor Rixintang.
Mu's Manor, also known as "Moorhe Manor", is not only large-scale, simple and spectacular, but also integrates Chinese history, architecture, and folk culture.
So, who created such a magnificent Mou Manor? How was it created?
The establishment of Mou's Manor was inseparable from a man named Mou. When it comes to Mou, we have to start with Mou Zhiyi, Mou’s grandfather.
Mou Zhiyi originally lived in "Xinyue Pavilion" in Qixia City. In 1742, he moved to Mou's Manor in Ducun, an ancient town, where he built four thatched cottages, or "little thatched cottages". Became the first owner of Mou's Manor.
Although Mou Zhiyi was the first-generation owner of Mou's Manor, his family was not wealthy at the time. He lost his father when he was 18 years old and lived with his uncle Mimu, and their relationship was like that of father and son. At the age of 30, he separated from his uncle. According to Mou Yuanxiang, the 14th generation of the Mou family, recorded in the "Ancient Collection of Xiaofei Cottage":
At the age of 30, Mou Zhiyi resigned from his uncle's job and moved from Xinyue Pavilion in the city to the capital of the ancient town.
You are as desolate as a poor scholar's home inside and out. There are no treasures such as ancient tripod calligraphy and Yi utensils. Even a few boxes of beds belong to ordinary people.
After living in the countryside, I was a little embarrassed at first. I am so silly and unpretentious. It feels safe to be with it and I don’t feel stupid at all.
It can be seen from this that Mou Zhiyi grew up in a poor family and had a rough fate. Even so, he never thought of giving up on himself. Instead, he moved from "Xinyue Pavilion" to the ancient town of Ducun, and gradually developed and established his own home.
It is said that when Mou Zhiyi and his uncle separated, they only had more than 300 acres of land. By the time Mou Miao came to live, they had over a thousand acres of land. Mou Miao has grown from an initial 60 acres of land to over a thousand acres now. From this, we can see that Mou Miao's management methods are very shrewd.
With so much land, Mou Miao naturally wanted to build a house on his own land, so Mou Miao led the hired workers to build the earliest group of buildings "Rixintang" in Mou's manor. ".
This Rixintang, commonly known as "Old Pavilion", has six courtyards and five courtyards, including a hall, a hall, a living room, a double-storey bedroom, a bedroom, a north group room, and a West group housing, a total of 89 houses.
"Rixintang" was built in 1735. At that time, the surrounding area was still a wilderness, and the buildings were relatively scattered. Later, it was taken over by Mou Miao's son Mou, and it gradually took shape.
After Rixintang became the courtyard where Mou lived, many important decisions of the manor were made here, and it is regarded as the birthplace of Mou Manor. After Mou's death, it has been inherited by the eldest son and grandson of his descendants. Compared with other courtyards, there is a sense of historical vicissitudes.
