Can a family member entrust a lawyer to defend the suspect?

According to the third paragraph of Article 33 of China's Criminal Procedure Law, if a criminal suspect or defendant is in custody, his guardian or near relative may entrust a defender. The law here also has express provisions for close relatives. According to Item (6) of Article 106 of China's Criminal Procedure Law, "close relatives" refer to husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters. The above-mentioned close relatives may entrust a defense lawyer for the criminal suspect, and the defense lawyer has the right to meet the criminal suspect in the detention center. Therefore, people outside the above provisions cannot entrust lawyers to defend them. Of course, if their close relatives are willing to entrust but unwilling or unable to pay the lawyer's fees, other relatives and friends are willing to bear the lawyer's fees, and it is also feasible to sign the power of attorney in the name of their close relatives, and other relatives and friends will pay the lawyer's fees.
