Liu Qian’s parents felt a little relieved after learning that the police had arrested the suspect. On the same day, Toronto police appealed to the public for help in locating Liu Gan's personal belongings, such as a laptop, camera and cell phone, which were missing at the scene of the discovery.

Canadian TV reported that Liu Gan’s boyfriend Meng Xiaochao told the police that a white man entered Liu Gan’s room while he was video chatting with his girlfriend. When Liu Qian opened the door, the two parties looked familiar and exchanged greetings. The man borrowed Liu Gan's cell phone and tried to hug Liu Gan, but the girl refused many times. Meng Xiaochao said that the local authorities failed to pursue Liu Gan.

Meng Xiaochao, who witnessed the above scene through video, was extremely anxious but was powerless. Then, the man turned off Liu Qian's computer. Since then, Meng Xiaochao has repeatedly tried to contact Liu Qian’s friends in Canada, but all failed. A few hours later, the police who received the report rushed to the scene and found Liu Gan's body, but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
