How long will it take to be convicted of theft?
If you are suspected of committing a crime, the time spent in the detention center includes the period of criminal detention, the period of investigation and detention after arrest, and the period of examination and prosecution by the procuratorate. If you have not been sentenced or convicted, but have been sentenced to probation, you can be released. (1) Criminal detention generally lasts 14 days, with a maximum of 37 days. (2) The period of investigation detention after arrest: generally two months. For complex cases, with the approval of the procuratorate at the next higher level, it can be extended by one month, that is, three months. Under special circumstances, it may be extended with the approval of the provincial procuratorate. (3) The time limit for the procuratorate to review and prosecute: generally, it is one month. If the circumstances are serious and complicated, it can be extended by half a month. To sum up: if it is not a particularly serious criminal case, the court has not been convicted after going through all the procedures, or if it is convicted but sentenced to probation, it will usually be held in the detention center for five or six months.
