Yulin is located in the northernmost part of Shaanxi Province, China, at the junction of the Loess Plateau and Mu Us Sandy Land, which is the transitional zone between the Loess Plateau and Inner Mongolia Plateau. The Yellow River faces Shanxi Province across the river in the east, borders Ningxia and Gansu in the west, Yan 'an in the south and Ordos in the north. This is the junction of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Mongolia and Shanxi provinces, and it has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times.
Yulin Folklore
There are 12 counties and cities in Yulin, and it is customary to say that there are six counties in the north and south. The six northern counties and cities are Yulin, Hengshan, Shenmu, Fugu, Jingbian and Dingbian. The six southern counties are Suide, Mizhi, Qingjian, Wubao, Jiaxian and Zizhou. There are the Great Wall in the northern six counties, and there are sand dunes and sandy land in the Mu Us Desert. Six counties in the south are all within the Great Wall, which is a hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau. Therefore, there are obvious differences between North and South customs.
Grassland civilization accounts for a considerable proportion in six northern counties, and animal husbandry has been very developed. People live in houses with brick houses in June 8th, and they like to eat fried rice, cheese, grab mutton, drink white wine, wear leather jackets and trousers, and are quite happy to start. Although the six counties in the south are influenced by nomadic civilization, the Yellow River civilization is the main one. People live in caves, eat miscellaneous grains, wear cloth, love their homeland, and are unwilling to migrate. They take agriculture as their business, plough barren fields, work at sunrise and rest at sunset, and enjoy themselves despite their hard work all the year round.
