The word "lawyer" appeared very early. After Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty conquered the Western Regions, Buddhism began to be introduced into our country. At the beginning of obtaining all Sanskrit scriptures. It was not until Emperor Huan of the Han Dynasty that Chinese Buddhist scriptures appeared, and the borrowed words and translated words in the Buddhist scriptures were converted into the Chinese system. "Lawyer" is also one of them. "Zu Mei Sutra - Vajra Body Product" says, "A lawyer who knows the Buddhist affairs and is good at understanding the Buddha's thoughts is called a lawyer." ?
The term "lawyer" at this time has nothing to do with law. It is just a Buddhist translation of a monk who is familiar with Buddhist scriptures. The Buddhist scriptures mainly include Sutras (a collection of Sakyamuni's teachings), Vinaya (a collection of Buddhist precepts and rules and regulations), and Treatises (a collection of the theories and thoughts expounded by Sakyamuni's later disciples), which are called "Tripitaka". Monks have different skills in obtaining scriptures, and monks with higher levels have different titles according to specific circumstances. "Sutra masters" are mainly monks who are proficient in the "Collection of Sutras" or good at reciting Sutras; "study masters" are focused on monks who are proficient in "The Collection of Sutras"; "sutra masters" are monks who are good at reciting the "Sutra Collection". "Lawyer" refers to a monk who is proficient in "Sutra Collection", and "lawyer" refers to a monk who is proficient in "Dharma Collection". It can be seen that "lawyer" first entered the Chinese vocabulary system as a title for monks. It existed due to the existence of Buddhism and has been used to this day.
"Lawyer" is the transliteration of "Shuowen Jiezi": "Xingye, as flat as water, comes from water; therefore, it cannot be touched directly, so it goes away." Explain that the law can uphold justice, punish evil and promote good. The law was formed at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period and the beginning of the Warring States Period. The law is a public code. Dharma, "Erya" explains it is the essence of Dharma, "Shuowen Jiezi" is the name of Dharma, the paragraph notes "Dharma, so the differences in the world are unified, so it is said to be unified." Law is the main term for crime and punishment in criminal law. "Law" refers to specific regulations, and "Law" is more specific than "Law". In Buddhism, "Law" mainly refers to precepts, and the "Law Sect" of Buddhism is a sect that practices according to the law. Therefore, a lawyer is the one who interprets the "law", not the one who convicts according to the "law". The person who determines right and wrong and convicts according to the "law" is the "judge". It is the "judge" who decides right and wrong and convicts according to the "law". This may be the main reason why the names "lawyer" and "judge" appear in modern Chinese.
