The following year, Lihuang County was included in Anhui Province, the land originally belonging to Gushi subsequently entered Anhui.

In September of the 27th year of the Republic of China (1938), the Japanese army invaded Gushi in two groups. The Chinese army rose up to resist and annihilated about 10,000 Japanese troops in the Battle of Fujin Mountain. On September 7, Gushi fell.
