Yulin is located in the northernmost part of Shaanxi Province, China, at the junction of the Loess Plateau and Mu Us Sandy Land, and it is a transitional zone between the Loess Plateau and Inner Mongolia Plateau. The Yellow River faces Shanxi across the river in the east, Ningxia and Gansu in the west, Yan 'an in the south and Ordos in the north. It is the junction of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Mongolia and Shanxi provinces and has been a battleground for military strategists since ancient times.
