How long does it take from trial to sentencing? I mean, how many hours will the trial take?

There is no specific time for the court to hear the case. This is determined according to the complexity of the case. It usually takes about two hours to hear an ordinary case. If you encounter a case with many parties and complicated evidence, it may take half a day or even a day. Under special circumstances, the trial process of criminal cases takes several days.

According to the Civil Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC):

Article 136 Notice and announcement of court session

When trying a civil case, the people's court shall notify the parties and other participants in the proceedings three days before the hearing. If the hearing is held in public, the names of the parties, the cause of action, the time and place of the hearing shall be announced.

Article 137 Pre-trial preparation

Before the court session, the clerk shall find out whether the parties and other participants in the proceedings appear in court and announce the court discipline. At the hearing, the presiding judge shall check the parties, announce the cause of action, announce the list of judges and clerks, inform the parties of their litigation rights and obligations, and ask the parties whether to apply for withdrawal.

Rule 146 Suspension of trial

In any of the following circumstances, the hearing may be postponed:

(a) the parties who must appear in court and other participants in the proceedings have justified reasons for not appearing in court; ?

(2) The party concerned temporarily applies for withdrawal; ?

(3) It is necessary to notify new witnesses to appear in court, obtain new evidence, re-authenticate, conduct an inquest or make supplementary investigations; ?

(4) Other circumstances that should be postponed.

Article 148 Judgment

The people's court shall pronounce a judgment in public on cases that are tried in public or not. If a verdict is pronounced in court, it shall be served within ten days; If the sentence is pronounced regularly, a written judgment will be issued immediately after the sentence is pronounced. When sentencing, the parties must be informed of the right of appeal, the time limit for appeal and the court of appeal. When a divorce judgment is pronounced, the parties concerned must be informed that they may not get married separately before the judgment becomes legally effective.

Article 158 Mode of prosecution

For simple civil cases, the plaintiff can sue orally. Both parties may at the same time request the grassroots people's court or the court dispatched by it to resolve the dispute. The basic people's court or the court dispatched by it may hold a hearing immediately or hold another hearing.

Article 159. Ways of summoning
