Hefei Legal Aid Center

Hefei Legal Aid Center was established in December 1996, is the first batch of legal aid institutions established in Anhui Province, under the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Justice, for the full allocation of financial institutions at the level of section. Its duties are to organize, coordinate and supervise the city's legal aid work; accept, review and handle legal aid cases; and provide legal advice to the society. Hefei City Legal Aid Center has 10 staff members, including four full-time lawyers, five paralegals and one housekeeping staff member, all of whom graduated from law schools. Hefei City Legal Aid Center is currently the director is Liu Tao lawyer.

Hefei legal aid center's business scope is: criminal legal aid, including blind, deaf, mute and other disabled people or minors, or may be sentenced to death the defendant did not appoint a defender; civil legal aid, including law request state compensation; request to give the social insurance treatment or the minimum subsistence guarantee treatment; request to send pensions, relief funds; request to pay Alimony, fostering and maintenance; payment of labor remuneration; claiming civil rights and interests arising from acts of bravery and courage; and other matters where legal aid is really needed; and free legal counseling and free legal advice to the public.

Since its establishment, the Hefei Legal Aid Center has always put the rights of the elderly, sick, disabled and other vulnerable groups in the first place, and actively explore various people-friendly measures to facilitate the people's consultation and application for legal aid, and to meet the legal aid needs of the needy by all means. 2004 May, Hefei Legal Aid Center, in accordance with the "Legal Aid Regulations" and "Legal Aid Regulations of Anhui Province", developed the "Hefei Legal Aid Center". In May 2004, Hefei Legal Aid Center formulated the Scope of Acceptance of Legal Aid Cases according to the Regulations on Legal Aid and Regulations on Legal Aid in Anhui Province. The Scope of Acceptance of Legal Aid Cases is highly operational, which on the one hand facilitates the receptionists to examine the legal aid applications of the clients quickly and efficiently in accordance with the law, and on the other hand moderately expands the scope of legal aid in light of the actual situation of the city, so that more people with special difficulties can be benefited from legal aid. In order to further expand the coverage of legal aid, the Hefei Legal Aid Center has also set up legal aid workstations (offices) in the Hefei Help Center for Workers in Difficulties, the Hefei Disabled Persons' Federation, and the Hefei Yicheng Prison, and arranges for lawyers to be stationed on duty on a regular basis, making it easier for specific disadvantaged groups to consult the law and apply for legal aid. In June 2004, the Hefei Legal Aid Center also cooperated with the International Justice Bridge (Foundation) to strengthen international legal aid exchanges and establish the first municipal model criminal legal aid center in the city.

Since its establishment, the Hefei Legal Aid Center has accumulated more than 1,500 criminal, civil, economic, administrative and non-litigation legal aid cases, of which more than 800 cases have been assigned to the People's Court for criminal defense, 700 civil legal aid cases have been handled on the application of the parties concerned, more than 28,000 consultations have been received on the phone and visits, and more than 1,000 legal documents have been written on behalf of the parties concerned free of charge. It has written more than 1,000 legal documents on behalf of the clients, and carried out voluntary legal counseling on the streets for 30 times, effectively safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the recipients and promoting judicial justice. Up to now, the Legal Aid Center of Hefei City has not received a single reported phone call or complaint letter from the aided person, nor has it found a single person or thing that violates the law or discipline. The support and encouragement of the public, the concern and supervision of the community, the Hefei Legal Aid Center has gained progress and honors one after another: in 1998, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Collective of the City's Judicial Administration System"; in 1999, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Collective" in the annual assessment; in January 2001, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Collective"; in January 2001, it was awarded the title of "Advanced Collective". In January 2001, it was honored as the first "Advanced Collective of Provincial Legal Aid"; in March 2001, it was honored by the Ministry of Justice as the "National Advanced Collective of Legal Aid"; in November 2001, it was honored as the "City-wide Advanced Collective for Helping the Disabled" by the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation. In November 2001, the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation awarded the title of "Advanced Collective of Helping the Disabled in the City"; in April 2002, it was awarded the title of "Hefei Youth Civilization"; in 2004, it was awarded the title of "Hefei Youth Civilization Model"; in April 2005, it was awarded the title of "Hefei Youth Civilization Model". In April 2005, it was honored with the title of "Hefei City 2002-2004 Advanced Collective"; in January 2006, it was honored with the title of "Collective Second Class Merit of the Provincial Judicial Administration System" by the Department of Justice of Anhui Province; in April 2006, it was honored with the title of "Advanced Collective with Disabilities" by the Department of Justice of Anhui Province and the Anhui Disabled Persons' Federation. In April 2006, it was jointly awarded the title of "Advanced Collective for the Protection of the Rights of the Disabled in the Province" by the Department of Justice of Anhui Province and the Disabled Persons' Federation of Anhui Province.
