Chen Youren, 1875 was born in Trinidad, West Indies, and was born in Shunde, Guangdong. My father used to be a local carpenter, and later joined the Taiping Army led by Hong Xiuquan, and then fled to Hong Kong and traveled thousands of miles. Chen Youren's mother was born in Baoan, Shenzhen. With the unique diligence of China people, they have run several local retail stores, and their lives are getting richer and richer.
1898 graduated from St. Mary's College in Port of Spain. Smith, a famous local lawyer, took a fancy to him and was willing to accept him as an apprentice. After five years' study, he obtained the qualification of junior lawyer, certificate transferor and notary, which was previously only granted to people with British citizenship. Chen Youren became the first Chinese lawyer in Trinidad.
