What are the consequences of not going to court after receiving a court summons?
In the absence of the defendant in a civil trial, the court can pronounce the sentence by summoning or trial by default. If the defendant refuses to appear in court without justifiable reasons, he may make a judgment by default. After ascertaining the facts, the court may make a judgment by default. If the evidence in favor of the defendant cannot be proved and cross-examined because of the defendant's absence, the defendant may have to bear adverse consequences. Article 144 of the Civil Procedure Law: If the defendant refuses to appear in court without justifiable reasons after being summoned by summons, or withdraws from court without the permission of the court, he may make a judgment by default.
