Legal basis for lawyers to apply for witnesses to testify in court

Legal analysis: if a witness is really unable to appear in court, he can testify by providing written testimony, using audio-visual transmission technology or audio-visual materials with the permission of the people's court. Where a party applies for a witness to testify in court, it shall do so before the expiration of the time limit for adducing evidence.

Legal basis: Article 61 of the Criminal Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC). Witness testimony must be cross-examined and verified by the public prosecutor, the victim, the defendant and the defender in court before it can be used as the basis for finalizing the case. If the court finds that a witness intentionally perjures or conceals criminal evidence, it shall deal with it according to law.
