Legal basis: Article 191 of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China. After the public prosecutor reads the indictment in court, the defendant and the victim can state the crimes charged in the indictment, and the public prosecutor can interrogate the defendant.
Victims, plaintiffs, defenders, and litigation agents in attached civil litigation may ask questions to the defendant with the permission of the presiding judge.
The judge can interrogate the defendant.
