Interpretation of idioms: Yi is a mallet used to beat drums. Literally, no one beats drums with a mallet, which is used as a metaphor for political integrity and harmony, social order is stable, and there are no unjust, false and wrong cases.
The origin of idioms: the story of Dong Xuan, a corrupt official in the later Han Dynasty: "(Dong Xuan) is characterized by the Luoyang Order ... which shocked the world because of its war with powerful people. The capital was called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and the Song Dynasty said,' Dong beat the drums but didn't ring'"
Dong Xuan, whose real name is Shao Ping, was born in Liu Chen (now Qixian County, Henan Province) and was the grandson of Dong Zhongshu V. He is a fair and honest official and does not shy away from powerful people in law enforcement. He was a famous good official in the early years of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
At that time, Luoyang, Kyoto, was the most difficult place to govern in China. Relatives of royalty and powerful people often indulge their children and slaves in the street and rule the market. The court changed the Luoyang decree several times, but the situation was still out of control. In this case, Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, decided to appoint 69-year-old Dong Xuan as Luoyang Order.
After Dong Xuan arrived in Luoyang, he soon encountered a very difficult case. Liu Xiu, the sister of Emperor Guangwu, is a domestic slave of Princess Huang Liu of Huyang. She killed someone in broad daylight and then hid. It turns out that local officials dare not offend the princess and let her get away with it.
After dark observation, one day, Dong Xuan took advantage of Princess Populus euphratica's opportunity to take this slave to Mangshan Mountain and set up troops in Xiamen Pavilion early. When they passed through here on their way back to the city, they stopped the motorcade and asked the princess to hand over the murderer. The princess refused to hand over the man. At Dong Xuan's command, officials swarmed in, dragged the murderer down from the princess's car and executed him on the spot.
Princess Populus euphratica became angry from embarrassment, and Liu Xiu had to kill Dong Xuan to vent her anger. Emperor Guangwu was very angry when he heard this, and ordered Dong Xuan to enter the palace, hoping to kill him with a disorderly stick. According to the law, Dong Xuan is unyielding. In a collision, he hit his head against a post and tried to commit suicide. Guangwudi understood Dong Xuan's frankness, but in order to take care of his sister's face, he asked Dong Xuan to kowtow to Princess Huyang, ready to settle the matter. But Dong Xuan insisted that he was innocent and refused. Emperor Guangwu ordered the eunuch to press his head to apologize. Dong Xuan put his hands on the ground and refused to bow his head.
Seeing that Dong Xuan was so honest and frank, Emperor Guangwu admired him deeply, and issued a "compulsory order" to let people take him out and persuade his sister to go home, thus solving the dispute. Since then, Dong Xuan's reputation as an "injunction" has spread all over the country, and all bullies in Beijing are not afraid of Dong Xuan, calling it "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". After governance, the social order in Luoyang, the capital, has been improved, and no one has expressed dissatisfaction with gongs and drums. The folk song says, "Drums don't ring."
Dong Ren worked for Luoyang for five years and died at the age of 74. Guangwudi sent messengers to offer condolences, only to find Dong Xuan's body covered with an old quilt. There is nothing at home except barley, a white horse and a broken car. Emperor Guangwu said sadly: "Dong Xuan is honest and knows everything!" Imperial edict: hold a funeral for the doctor and appoint his son Dong He as the doctor.
