On March 4, 2009, the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Netherlands, formally issued an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir for allegedly committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, Sudan. This is the first time that the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against a current head of state since its establishment in 2002.
