I once read such a sentence: "If there is a profession called reader in the world, no one is more suitable than Mao Mu."
Of course, besides Mao Mu, there are also some people who are recognized as having unique charm in reading.
For example, Fu Lei, a modern translator and literary critic. Fu Lei studied at the University of Paris in France in his early years. He translated a large number of French works, including Balzac, romain rolland and Voltaire. In terms of comments, he commented on Zhang Ailing's novels, the storytelling "Education of Love" and the prefaces of many translated works (which can also be regarded as a part of the storytelling). , mainly refers to "Fu Lei reading life"
Another example is the controversial Ding, her warm trilogy. She talked about Zhang Ailing, Qian Zhongshu, Liang Yusheng, Jin Yong and Wang Xiaobo.
However, today we are not talking about Mao Mu or Fu Lei, but another person, Dao Erdeng. A writer who combined his own reading experience, wrote books, essays and book reviews in wise language, and wrote a series of excellent works such as China Good Man, No Need to Read, Nod and Shake Your Head.
This is really an interesting person. For example, he often said that winning Kui Yuan in a certain province was "the biggest disgraceful thing in his life", and for example, "No Reading" said that "the original intention seems to be a little forgotten". The fact is, if you read through the book Don't Read, you will find that after reading it, you can't help but want to see the whole picture.
Most importantly, these "bibliographies" were read by Dolden himself. He not only read them, but also read new ideas and "doubts".
In the inscription, he wrote: "Today's unwise, can not be recorded in the account of the previous dynasty."
This should be the only one, right? At first, I thought I would focus on criticism. Later, I soon realized that I couldn't even take a word of praise and criticism. Later, I realized that I couldn't put it on the account of my predecessors.
Just like he talked about "tradition": is tradition something passed down from the past or something accepted in the past?
For example, he said:
"Usually, we hear two kinds of voices. One is that we have lost (a large part of) tradition, and the other is that tradition is shining; We also hear two voices, one is to crusade against old ideas, and the other is to save the remains of the past. "
Then, he said: these views may all be right, depending on the old and new concepts, there is still a judgment.
It is not incomprehensible to read these views. However, what is the author's view?
This is a bit like what Yasuji Suzuki said: "If you say flowers are beautiful, some people will say that there are also flowers that are not beautiful." . Anticipating this complaint, I wrote' There are both beautiful flowers and beautiful flowers'. This is basically bullshit. What everyone agrees with is not expression. "
It is true that what everyone agrees with is not expression.
Actually, it's the same. In the inscription part of Don't Read that Book, Doyle said frankly: "Don't read that book" originally wanted to pick out the common and most frequently read ancient books for discussion, but today, there are very few such books, so we have to focus on common concepts and involve several books that ordinary readers don't expect to read. "
So, what kind of book is "not reading"?
As far as the specific content is concerned, the author has made it very clear. As a reader, I think what the author wants to express may be: leave it to future generations for comment.
After all, for him, he has finished his expression and made a discussion.
For readers, read or not read Don't Read This Book or not? Or watch it carefully?
2.
Scholars generally have this problem: before reading, they may not think about the author, but only discuss whether the content of the book is good or not. To put it bluntly, this is the place related to your own interests.
So, who says that literati are really noble?
Let's just say that the act of reading, the purpose of reading must belong to one of the categories of reading, whether it is to increase knowledge, satisfy curiosity, or hope to gain a little knowledge, enlightenment, consciousness, value, thinking and so on. In a word, it is obviously difficult to convince anyone who says that reading has no purpose.
The same is true of book writers. If the books they write don't contain things that people like to see or are related to people's "interests", most of what they write will not be seen. At least you can't edit this piece. So, you have to meet some needs. And, to be honest, if all this is put aside, what should the book writer write? In other words, what else can you write?
From this point of view, it is not difficult to find that every book can be published, or can be excavated, for a certain reason. It's just a question whether people pick books or people pick books.
Just say "Don't read". You can't violate this "rule".
Whether you are curious about what is included in this bibliography, afraid of missing some books, or want to know what is the basis of "no need to read", you have to say something, which makes sense, doesn't it?
Personally, I prefer Yang Wenbiao, the founding partner of Bai Shirui Group, to classify the knowledge that can be learned from books. He said:
"I divide the knowledge I have learned from books into three categories, namely self-knowledge, side knowledge and other knowledge. This knowledge is the knowledge that has the greatest influence or the closest relationship to a person's career or life goals; Sideknowledge refers to knowledge that helps you achieve your life goals and plays a promoting role; And it has little to do with your own life goals, but it can enrich the knowledge of social experience. Accordingly, books can be divided into professional books, reference books and leisure books. Therefore, the positioning of each reader is different for the same book. For you, a book provides knowledge; But for me, it may just be a casual book. But just another book may be of opposite value to you and me. Therefore, for everyone, the reading bibliography must be based on their own goals, and must not be influenced by fashion and deviate from the reading direction. Although you want to read widely to prove your unlimited potential, it's a pity that people's energy is limited, so you have to choose between reading! "
Finally, he concluded: "My advice on recommending books is: the books you know should be qualified, the books you know should be trimmed, and the books you know should be qualified."
According to this classification, it is obvious that "books that don't read" should belong to "books that it knows", so, from a certain point of view, reading it requires a certain fate.
Here, I think of a more interesting thing I discovered recently:
I bought the book No Need to Read three years ago. At that time, I had just finished reading The Good Man of China, and then I bought his other books according to the author's ideas, such as Seven Days Talk, Old Mountains and Rivers, Avenue and Trail, Nodding and Shaking, Origin of Cattle Species, Return of Kites and so on. At that time, I almost wanted to take all his works into my pocket. Actually, I did. I spent hundreds of dollars on the platform to buy all his works.
You know, when you are really attracted by a person's talent, you don't think so much, you have no intention to weigh the pros and cons, calculate the pros and cons, and you don't compare the pros and cons like shopping. You just want to collect all the works about this person as much as possible.
Appreciate, like, love, get, have, possess ... reasons and so on, have long been forgotten.
This is another question for scholars: What happens when you start reading a book, an article or a magazine story? If the work is interesting, then you are looking for the author. You are guessing the brain behind the article.
Obviously, that's me.
However, after I bought it, I didn't have the first time to read it. This seems to be the habit of many "scholars". After buying it back, because it won't disappear, it's easy to be put aside and left dusty, thinking that it doesn't matter if you read it later. Plus, I'm not in a hurry to see it. Even if I know it's good, I can still wait and see. Many of my books are like this, and as a result, many books have not been finished.
Until today, it occurred to me that I suddenly remembered such a person and such a book, and I opened it again.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the relevant materials without reading purpose, but I was told that the copyright cooperation of this resource has been suspended and we are fighting for it. ...
Fortunately, I bought this book early.
So, really, some books need fate to read.
3.
When it comes to why I chose No Reading Purpose, it is largely because I have been writing book reviews recently.
Occasionally I come across some very good books, but I don't know where to start if I want to evaluate them.
Based on this situation, I happen to remember that someone appreciated it, and I remembered another book, so I found it. That is, Dalden's "Don't read that book".
Of course, it can't be ignored that since the other party's theme is "no need to read", "no need to read" itself has certain critical significance. As we all know, it is not much easier for people to say no than to say yes. Just like the good guys in China, it makes sense to say what a "good guy" is and why. And saying "no" is obviously an extra layer. You should not only analyze its goodness, but also overthrow its goodness and give reasons for "no". This is reasonable, isn't it?
Therefore, compared with "good", "no" has another layer. From the depth, it can be roughly understood like this.
In fact, the content of "don't read books" is indeed like this. It not only needs to read every book well, but also needs to present strong evidence to prove the reason for not reading it. It is not enough for you to avoid the heavy weight, trace back to the source, or put the cart before the horse, or cut in from a too one-sided, biased and paranoid angle, and it is even more impracticable to talk in general terms. If so, it would be too unconvincing.
Moreover, don't treat readers as fools. You know, people who treat others as fools often don't know that they are the biggest fools in the eyes of others.
Obviously Doyle knew this well, so he didn't shy away from reality, didn't generalize, and didn't deliberately make "decorations" to explain the impulse of "no need to study".
At this point, it is already a very valuable quality.
If you understand the human reaction and thinking tendency, you will agree with me:
For example, people tend to rationalize what they observe impulsively.
For another example, there are always some people who don't know what it means, especially those who like to talk in general. I seldom think carefully before I speak, but let emotions, prejudices, prejudices, likes and dislikes, hopes and setbacks replace careful thinking.
4.
So what's the best way?
I read a wise statement today, which I think is a good way. She said, "When you face an opinion and a question, you should imagine yourself as an international judge. You should listen to all the statements of the defense lawyers of both sides patiently, don't jump to conclusions too early, and don't get too personal. Think about it, if you need to judge a person's life and death at this time, will you be more cautious and fair? "
To some extent, the same is true of books.
It says that reading needs fate, but fate alone is obviously not enough. Just as I bought these books and waited until now to read them, there are more books that I may never reach even if I buy them, which is not impossible. Therefore, whether you buy books, read books or choose books, don't jump to conclusions too early, especially when reading books, which is extremely dangerous. This is not rigorous and fair enough for books, or reading, or for your own needs.
For example, a few years ago, I might feel that "don't read" is like this title, and it's nothing to read. After all, I had some feelings about many books in the bibliography at that time, and I could hardly hear any refutation at this time. For example, Four Great Classical Novels, Zhuangzi, Laozi, Neijing and Zhouyi. I have always felt that these books have a certain depth, no matter their preciousness, cultural tradition, civilization and ideology. If you tell me not to look at these, what should I look at? What is more worth reading than this?
However, as someone said, "there is a vacuum in words."
Every book, or every expression, has its limitations. If we can look at its limitations objectively, it is definitely not belittling, but broadening, which can expand our thinking, enhance our cognition and bring us back to a state closer to the essence of things.
This is the case with the book Don't Read. It is not pure criticism or accusation, nor is it deliberate devaluation. On the contrary, it is closer to the essence of things, the book itself, the content, connotation and essence of the book itself.
As someone said, being misunderstood is the fate of the speaker.
On the one hand, isn't this the essential attribute of expression? What everyone agrees with is not expression.
On the other hand, how many people only accept information from fixed sources, tend to believe what they want, tend to project their preferences or experiences into real life, and tend to summarize special events. This is really getting farther and farther away from the truth and essence.
Especially at present, all kinds of marketing methods, all kinds of "waistcoats" and all kinds of literary ornaments are very unfriendly to traditional and classical books or other books. In addition, it is not uncommon to pay too much attention to the author's achievements and ignore his thoughts, lacking dialectical thinking and independent and original opinions. Such a book undoubtedly sounded a "wake-up call" to us: it's time.
So, I think "Don't read" is a good book. On the bright side, it provides more people with a perspective to re-examine the book itself. It is not preconceived and self-righteous, but "on books" to examine its content and thoughts.
Again, if everyone agrees, it can't be expressed. As far as books are concerned, "Don't read that book" has been achieved; In terms of expression, "Don't read" has also been done; This is especially true in content and thought.
So, if possible, I hope everyone can read the book Don't Read. As someone said, look at the world without prejudice. If you are biased, you can't see far. Being a frog in the well has nothing to be proud of. If you can see farther, you must stretch your neck and open your heart to look forward.
So is reading.
