Under what circumstances can I apply for legal aid?

In civil litigation, if a party needs a lawyer to provide legal assistance due to financial difficulties, he or she may apply for legal aid from a legal aid institution at the same level that the people's court has jurisdiction over.

When applying, the parties must provide the following supporting materials to the legal aid agency:

(1) There are sufficient reasons and evidence to prove that legal help is needed to protect their legitimate rights and interests;

(2) The economic conditions of myself and my family meet the standards for citizens’ financial difficulties stipulated by local government departments.
