Can a retired judge be a lawyer?

According to the provisions of China's Lawyers Law, retired judges can be lawyers, but they may not serve as agents ad litem or defenders for two years after leaving office.

Article 7 of the Lawyers Law An applicant shall not be issued a lawyer's practice certificate under any of the following circumstances:

(1) Having no or limited capacity for civil conduct;

(2) Having been subjected to criminal punishment, except for negligent crimes;

(3) Being expelled from public office or having his lawyer's practice certificate revoked.

Article 27 of the Measures for the Administration of Lawyers' Practice: A lawyer who once served as a judge or prosecutor shall not serve as an agent ad litem or defender within two years after leaving the people's court or people's procuratorate.
