Xinrong District belongs to Datong City, Shanxi Province. Located in the northern part of Shanxi Province, at the northern edge of the Datong Basin, 40?07'~40?24', 112?52'~113?31' east longitude, bordering Yanggao County and Yunzhou District of Datong City to the east, and Zuoyun County of Datong City to the west , bordering Liangcheng County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It borders Yungang District of Datong City to the south, Liangcheng County and Fengzhen City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north and is bounded by the Great Wall. It is 31 kilometers wide from north to south and 53 kilometers long from east to west, with a total area of ??1102.3 square kilometers.
Xinrong District has a temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The river belongs to the Yongding River system of the Haihe River Basin. There are five main rivers: Yuhe River, Wanquan River, Quanzi River, Ni River and Shili River. One of the national key cultural relics protection units: Fangshan Yongguling Site. It is the second batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization films divided into counties.
Architectural evolution:
In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, this area was under the jurisdiction of Datong City and Zuoyun County, and under the jurisdiction of Chahar Province.
In August 1952, Chahar Province was abolished, and Datong City and Zuoyun County were returned to Shanxi Province. This area still belongs to Datong City and Zuoyun County. It belongs to the part under the jurisdiction of Datong City, and then belongs to Daren County.
In 1958, except for Guojiayao, Dongshengzhuang and Bulu, the rest of the areas were placed in the suburbs of Datong City.
In 1960, this area belonged to the ancient city.
In 1964, returned to Datong County.
In 1970, the northern suburbs of Datong were established, with jurisdiction over Yungang, Gaoshan, Gudian and nine communes designated by Datong County: Xinrong, Luzhen, Xicun, Shangshenjian, Shengli and Jubi.
In April 1972, the northern suburbs were renamed Xinrong District of Datong City.
