During the investigation stage, relatives of detained criminal suspects are not allowed to meet. If a lawyer is hired, the lawyer can meet. According to the "Several Provisions on Protecting Lawyers' Practice Rights and Regulating Lawyers' Practice Behavior in Criminal Proceedings", in the investigation stage, if a lawyer meets a criminal suspect in custody, the investigation organ may decide whether to send personnel to the scene according to the case and needs. The staff of the investigation organ present shall not terminate or interrupt the lawyer's meeting without reason or at will, but the lawyer has the right to decide to terminate the meeting under any of the following circumstances and refuses to listen to dissuasion, and notify the judicial administrative organ or the lawyers' association of the relevant situation.
(1) Lawyers bring relatives of criminal suspects or other personnel to attend the meeting;
(2) lawyers provide communication tools for criminal suspects;
(3) The lawyer delivers letters and articles to the criminal suspect;
(4) The lawyer transmits to the criminal suspect in custody information related to the case from other criminal suspects, witnesses or interested parties, which may hinder the investigation.
Therefore, family members can only apply for meeting if they are sent to the prison administration after the verdict.
