Yuxi City is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province. It is located in the central part of Yunnan Province. Its geographical coordinates are between 23° 19′~ 24° 53′ north latitude and 101° 16′~ 103 09′ east longitude. . To the north is the provincial capital Kunming, to the southwest is Pu'er, to the southeast is Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and to the northwest is Weichu. The total area is 15,285 square kilometers and the population is 2.3 million (2010).
Yuxi City is located in a low-latitude plateau area and has a subtropical monsoon climate. The climate changes with the complex topography of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Tonkin and the combined effects of temperature, humidity and dry air currents. It has the characteristics of dry season in winter and spring, rainy season in summer and autumn, vertical back-to-back, directional, mild and humid.
The annual average temperature is 15.4-24.2℃, the maximum temperature is 32.2℃, and the minimum temperature is -3℃. The average annual precipitation is 787.8-1000mm, mostly concentrated from June to October, especially in the rainy season, from May to October. Heavy rains are mostly concentrated from June to August, and small-scale, high-intensity "single-point rainstorms" occur frequently; relative humidity is 75.3, the absolute humidity is 13.6 millibars; the average annual evaporation is 1801mm. January to March is the frost season, with occasional snowfall.
Due to complex terrain and large height differences, rainfall in mountainous areas is generally higher than in dam areas, and temperatures are lower. From the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley, the temperature difference between day and night changes significantly throughout the year.
Yuxi has a mild climate and rich products. It is the best growing area for high-quality flue-cured tobacco in the world. It is rich in mineral resources. Mineral reserves include: iron ore, with total reserves of 540 million tons, ranking first in the province; coal, with proven reserves of 654.3876 million tons; phosphate ore, with reserves of 65.4382 billion tons, ranking second in the province; copper Ore, with reserves of 6,543,803,560 tons; nickel reserves of 520,000 tons, is China's second largest mineral deposit.
The potential economic value of 40 mineral resources exceeds 400 billion yuan, of which the potential economic value of four dominant minerals, iron, copper, phosphorus and nickel, exceeds 654.38065 billion yuan.
