He once taught at the School of Humanities, Shanghai Jiaotong University. Now he is a professor, dean and doctoral supervisor of Chinese Department of Tongji University.

Now I am mainly engaged in literary aesthetics, cultural theory and the study of modern and contemporary literature in China, and I write novels in my spare time. The major and direction of postgraduate enrollment are as follows: 1, Master of Arts in Literature 2, Doctor of Philosophy in Literature and Aesthetics, with good conditions, enrolling doctoral students above 10 every year. During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, we will strive to obtain a doctorate in philosophy and establish a doctorate in language and literature in China. On the basis of the advantages of existing disciplines, we will strive to form 3-4 key disciplines (foreign philosophy, China philosophy, aesthetics, modern and contemporary literature in China, cultural industry management) with important influence in China during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period, and vigorously improve the school-running level and academic competitiveness of the College.
