What does Jilin Manchu mean?

Jilin Province is named after Jilin City. The Manchu name of Jilin City is "Jilin Wula", which means "the city along the river". The establishment of Jilin Province began in the tenth year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty (1653). In the 12th year of Kangxi (1673), the Qing court built Jilin City and named it "Jilin Wula", hence the name Jilin. In the 22nd year of Qianlong (1757), it was officially renamed as "General guarding Wula and other places in Jilin", or "Jilin General" for short.

Jilin Province is located in the geometric center of Northeast Asia composed of Japan, Russia, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia and northeast China. The ground span is between north latitude12138' ~1319' and north latitude 40 50' ~ 4619'. Land area 187400 square kilometers. It borders Heilongjiang Province in the north, Liaoning Province in the south, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the west, Russian Federation in the east and North Korea across the river in the southeast.

Jilin Province is located near the border, with a total length of 1438.7 km, of which the border between China and North Korea is 1206 km and the border between China and Russia is 232.7 km. Hunchun, the easternmost city, is only 15km away from the Sea of Japan and 4km away from Russian Bo Schet Bay.
