Tibet University for Nationalities, located in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, is the first institution of higher learning established by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for Tibet after the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The establishment of the school is a wise decision made by the party and the country's older generation leaders based on the political vision of national unity, border stability and national rejuvenation, and it is an important layout of the central government's strategy of governing Tibet. The school is a university jointly established by the Xizang Autonomous Region Municipal People's Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, a key construction university in the central and western regions of the country, a national education base for national unity and progress, a pilot unit of the Ministry of Education's excellent talent training program, a team-based counterpart-aided university aided by the Ministry of Education, the second batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, the first batch of excellent pilot units of educational informatization by the Ministry of Education, a national model greening unit, a national civilized campus and autonomous region universities.
Tibet University for Nationalities was born in a special historical period in the early days of Tibet's peaceful liberation and the eve of democratic reform. It undertakes the special historical mission of training all kinds of talents for Tibet and has made special historical contributions to Tibet's economic development and social progress. The school, formerly known as "Tibet Public School", was established under the instruction of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1957, and opened in September 1958. 1965 was renamed Tibet institute for nationalities, and 20 15 was renamed Tibet university for nationalities.
