In the Spring and Autumn Period, Yan was rescued from the northern expedition to Shanrong, where he was in the process of repairing leather, hence the name Nanpi. Nanpi County, located in Qin Dynasty, is the only thousand-year-old county in Cangzhou City whose county name has not changed since Qin Dynasty.

Historical evolution:
During the Tang, Yu, Xia and Shang Dynasties, the world was divided into twelve states, and Nanpi belonged to Yanzhou. During the Shang Dynasty, Jiang Taigong lived in seclusion and fished here. During the Western Zhou Dynasty, Yin Jifu, the minister of Maiqiu City in the State of Qi, was a Nanpi native and was buried in Nanpi after his death.
This shows the relationship between Nanpi and Shang and Zhou Dynasties. At the beginning of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Nanpi belonged to Qi. In the 13th year of King Hui of Zhou Dynasty (664 BC), Qi Huangong ceded territory to Yan State, with the southern border of Yan and Qi.
