From 65438 to 0953, Yuan Longping graduated from Southwest Agricultural College (merged into Southwest University in 2005). 1964 studied hybrid rice, 1973 realized three-line matching, 1974 bred the first strong hybrid rice combination Nanyou No.2, 1975 successfully developed hybrid rice seed production technology, which laid the foundation for large-scale popularization of hybrid rice.
1980- 198 1 year, Yuan Longping went to the United States as the technical director of the International Rice Research Institute. 1982 served as the deputy head of the national hybrid rice expert advisory group. 1985 put forward the strategic idea of hybrid rice breeding, and pointed out the direction for the further development of hybrid rice. 1987 Served as the expert in charge of two-line hybrid rice in the 863 Program. 199 1 was hired as the chief international consultant of FAO. 1995 was elected as an academician of China Academy of Engineering. 1995 successfully developed two-line hybrid rice, and 1997 put forward the breeding technical route of super hybrid rice. In 2000, the goal of the first stage of super rice breeding in China was achieved, and the goal of the second stage of super rice breeding in 2004 was achieved one year ahead of schedule.
After graduation, Yuan Longping has been engaged in agricultural education and hybrid rice research. 197 1 onwards, researcher of Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, vice chairman of Hunan CPPCC, member of CPPCC Standing Committee, director of National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center. He has successively won many domestic awards such as the National Special Invention Award and the First Highest Science and Technology Award, and 1 1 international awards such as the United Nations Science Award, the Wolf Award and the World Food Award. Published 6 monographs and more than 60 papers in Chinese and English.
It is found that many people don't understand the true meaning of hybrid rice. Many people think that they are northerners and eat wheat instead of rice, so it has nothing to do with Yuan Longping.
Let's give a simple example. Suppose there are 100 people in the world, and the food is only enough for 90 people. The shortage of food and the uneven distribution of wealth will cause 50 people to have enough food, while the other 40 people have no food, so a large-scale famine and war will break out, and this crisis will spread from 100 people to all 100 people.
If there are 100 people in the world and there is enough food for 1 10- 120 people, then there will be no food shortage and no large-scale hoarding. All 100 people can avoid these crises.
Yuan Longping is a famous agronomist in China and an academician of China Academy of Engineering. He is a pioneer and leader in the field of hybrid rice research in China, and has won the highest national science and technology award and many international awards.
